Dried flower confetti is a charming, eco-friendly alternative to traditional confetti, perfect for weddings, celebrations, or even as a touch of natural decor. Lightweight, colourful, and biodegradable, it’s easy to make at home with just a few simple steps. Follow this guide to create your own dried flower confetti!

Step 1: Choose Your Flowers
Start by selecting flowers with vibrant colors and delicate petals. Some popular choices include:

Roses: Classic and romantic, available in a wide range of colours.
Lavender: Adds a soft purple hue and a lovely scent.
Marigolds or Calendulas: Bright yellows and oranges for a cheerful touch.
Hydrangeas: Large petals in pastel shades.
Delphiniums or Cornflowers: Deep blues and purples for contrast.

Step 2: Collect and Prepare the Petals
Once you’ve chosen your flowers, it’s time to prepare them. Gently remove the petals from the flowers, discarding any damaged or browned ones. If you want to sort by colour – pinks and blues look lovely together – or you can just go for the full vibrant mix!

Step 3: Dry the Petals
There are a few methods to drying your flower petals including microwaving and oven baking. I’ve never had much like with either of those(!) so I prefer to just let the petals dry naturally.
Find yourself a flat surface, like a baking tray or similar and line it with some kitchen roll or paper.
Spread the petals out in a single layer and place them in a warmish, dry area away from direct sunlight and just leave them be for 10 to 14 days, flipping them over if necessary. It really is as simple as that!

Step 4: Store Your Confetti
Once the petals are completely dry put them into an airtight container like a jam jar or kilner jar and store somewhere dry, away from moisture – this will keep them fresh until you’re ready to use them.

Step 5: Use and Enjoy
Your dried flower confetti is now ready for use! Scatter at weddings, sprinkle on tables or  add to gift wrap or cards as an extra touch. If you’ve got some larger petals, mix them in with cinnamon sticks, dried herbs or citrus peel – add a few drops of your favourite essential oil and you’ve got some decorative pot pourri!
